Android 2.1 (eclair) for the Samsung Moment
After months of waiting, Samsung Moment users finally get the greatly anticipated 2.1 update. After using it for a few weeks now, I've used just about everything. To start off, the lock screen has changed to a "slide to unlock" design, but a nice feature is that if you slide the bar from right to left, it will go to silent. If you have a password pattern then you've probably accidentally called 911 a few times. This update fixes that problem and brings you to a dialer as apposed to auto-dialing the 911 switch for your area. Now for those of you familiar with the Nexus One version, you will be disappointed that we don't get the 3-D app drawer, the live wallpapers, or the option for more than three screens (although Google acknowledged these shortfalls they should be fixed in the next release). In addition to the lock screen, the battery life ( I've been getting 10 hours with moderate use and 7 with heavy use) and GPS issues were also fixed. Unfortunately this is not an over-the-air update, meaning that you would have to bring your phone into a service and repair center, but once they get started it only takes about 10 minutes. Although I do suggest using a backup application like MyBackupPro (in the market for $4.99) because you keep contacts, you will loose all of your apps, text messages, and settings. All in all, this is a great update and I have been very happy with it.
